Seikosha Laurel 18k Gold Wristwatch c.1915 | SellSail Antiques

$5,000.00

An exceptional early example of the Seikosha "Laurel" — Japan's first
domestically produced wristwatch and a foundational piece in the history
of Japanese horology.

Launched in 1913, the Laurel marked the moment Japan transitioned from
importer to manufacturer of fine timepieces. Approximately 350 examples
were made during its initial production run, of which only a small
fraction survive today. This example presents in 18k solid gold with
the distinctive wire lugs, onion crown, and enamel dial bearing the
red "12" that distinguish the earliest production.

The white enamel dial retains its original Arabic numerals with the
characteristic red "12" at the top, subsidiary seconds dial at 6
o'clock, and "LAUREL" signature below the center. Blued steel hands.
The 18k gold case shows wear consistent with a century of use,
with all original wire lug attachments intact.

Manufactured by Seikosha (now Seiko), Tokyo, c. 1913-1920.
